What a crazy start to my day. Let me tell you if there was a leveling system to art I just dinged. For the longest time figure drawing was a mystery to me, I tried so hard to capture impertinent details that I lost sight of what I was supposed to be doing. I wanted so badly to draw a recognizable human that I wasn’t capturing the emotion and fluidity of the human form. Now, I’m not saying I’ve mastered it, but it’s a night and day difference in my brain and on paper from just yesterday. Yesterday my cousin and I sat and worked on gesture drawings together in an online session, both of us were scribbling furiously trying to get as much detail as we could in the allotted time. Then today I watch these two videos:

And bam! I got smacked in the face with the reality of what I was supposed to be doing. Anyway, I’m still a far way off from being able to do what I want to be doing with art, but you can bet your ass I’m feeling mighty confident right now. I still am having trouble choosing which direction the lines should go but my ability to understand what gesture is and how to capture it is definitely progressing.
