Eye Aye Eye…

Whoa I think I’m starting to get the hang of drawing eyes. It seems that most of everything I am getting stuck on are the muscles behind the structure. Anyway, I’m working on understanding expression through eyes and I’m hoping that in the next few days I can really figure out how to draw them faster. Each of these took between 15 – 20 minutes.

Anyway, as always, Comments, Critique, and Feedback are welcome and encouraged 😀

  1. You show great discipline at working on this challenging part of the anatomy. If you look at any reference of eye profiles, you may see that the upper lid is definitely forward over the eyeball and lower lid. Seeing this relationship illustrated has helped me draw the face much better I know.

    • Thanks Carol 😀

I’ll look into that since I seem to be having difficulty capturing the essence of the forms overlapping the eye. Are there any good books or resources you can point me toward that significantly demonstrate this relationship?

      • Myself I found the chapter on The Eyes in John H. Vanderpoel’s The Human Figure (NY, Dover) very helpful. My teacher instructed us to copy some of the illustrations. That exercise really seemed to be a turning point for me. Maybe you would find this book easy to find, inexpensive and helpful to do too! Best wishes!
